My Experience/About Me

Anchor 1
Pre-ALIST

Prior to being hired as an A-LISTer, I worked for Towson's Department of New Student Programs as an Orientation Leader. I had recently joined Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority, and was a member of the Public Relations Group. I found out about the A-LIST from Becca Hertl (her sister was my roommate) and decided to apply!

On the Job

First Semester (January-May 2015)

Starting the A-LIST program was very intimidating but exciting! I love meeting new people so it was great to start getting to know everyone in the library. I really hit it off with my mentor, Megan, as well as everyone else in the program.

Learning about the library's goals and programs really interested me, and I really enjoyed working in the library classrooms to see our Research and Instruction implemented in "real life". I learned time management, and how to prioritize, as well as how to collaborate with my peers and with those above me.

Second Semester (August-December 2015)

Along with all of my projects, this semester I really got a feel for providing Research Assistance. I got in the hang of helping students at the Writing Center and at the Reference Desk, and began looking forward to roving reference time every week. I was able to focus on bigger projects as well as more independent studies, meaning that I really had to hold myself accountable. This meant that I also had to learn how to ask for help and admit when I was struggling, which was a difficult but necessary lesson to learn.

The Future
What's Next?

I have definitely grown since I began working on the A-LIST team. I have learned alot about myself and my work ethic, as well as my strengths and weaknesses. Some other valuable skills that I learned were delegation of tasks, customer service, reliability, communication, and just general professional behavior. I know that I can take all these skills, as well as everything else I have learned during the program, and apply it to any job or internship that I explore next.

I'm still a junior, so I have a little bit of time to figure out what I'm doing next, but I'll definitely still be around the library!
